Granuloma Annulare 2022-11-03

About Granuloma Annulare

Granuloma annulare (GA) is a non-infectious, granulomatous, inflammatory skin disorder characterized by the formation of papules and plaques, which are often annular. In most cases, rashes form on the hands, feet and forearms. The disease commonly affects adults in the first 3 to 5 decades of life with a reported female to male ratio of around 3: 1. The annual incidence of GA in the US was previously estimated to be roughly 0.06% to 0.09%. Currently, there are no FDA approved therapies or gold standard treatments for GA.

There are five main types of GA. It is possible to develop more than one type of GA at the same time.

  • Localized granuloma annulare: Most common type (~75%), limited to hands and feet.

  • Generalized granuloma annulare: Second common type (9.5~25%), spread to extremities and trunk.

  • Subcutaneous granuloma annulare

  • Perforating granuloma annulare

  • Patch granuloma annulare
